Through BAYO.S’ research, it can be concluded that knowledge is key when installing ground screws.
At the start of the project in Silkeborg, an insufficient geotechnical report was used. Here, the lengths of the ground screws were calculated to be 3.5 to 5.5 metres to achieve the necessary loads.
New supplementary geotechnical investigations were carried out according to BAYO.S’ recommendations, and then BAYO.S calculated from test experiments that the project could make do with 2 metres of BAYO.S Helix ground screw foundations distributed to reduce the loads per screw.
ABC & Concept Living therefore went from a quote for 78 BAYO.S ground screws with a total length of 339 metres to 94 BAYO.S ground screws with a total length of 188 metres for a large modular building of 834m2.
This not only saved money, but also a large amount of steel. For the benefit of the environment and CO2 emissions.
Although ground screw foundations are used, level access is not excluded. The building has ventilation ducts under the cladding, which provide air under the base boxes to prevent moisture build-up and keep radon out.
BAYO.S documented the foundation according to Danish standards – EC7, SBi 271 and DS1140 respectively.
